According to the number of layers, circuit boards are divided into three major categories: single panel, double panel, and multilayer circuit board.

The first is the single panel. On the most basic PCB, the parts are concentrated on one side, and the wires are concentrated on the other side. Because the wires only appear on one side, this PCB is called a single-sided circuit board. Single panel is usually simple to manufacture and low in cost, but the disadvantage is that it cannot be applied to products that are too complex.

The double-sided board is an extension of the single-sided board. When the single-layer wiring cannot meet the needs of electronic products, the double-sided board is used. Both sides are covered with copper and have traces, and the vias can be used to connect the lines between the two layers to form the required network connection.

Multi-layer board refers to a printed board that has more than three conductive graphic layers and the insulating material interposed therebetween, and the conductive patterns are interconnected as required. Multilayer circuit board is the product of the development of electronic information technology in the direction of high speed, multifunction, large capacity, small volume, thinness and light weight.

According to the characteristics of the circuit board, it is divided into flexible board (FPC), hard board (PCB), soft and hard combined board (FPCB).
